In the winter semester of 2025, we once again had a mechatronic integration project with Munich University of Applied Sciences and a team of seven students. The goal was to find solutions to the following problem.

Problem: An emergency call solution within one of our toilet facilities in accordance with DIN 18040-1. This is particularly complex for our remote locations without connection to infrastructure. The device should only be operated with 12 V.

Safety – even where infrastructure is lacking.
Our new emergency alarm system turns any self-sufficient or waterless sanitary facility into a reliable safety zone. Developed for remote locations, it combines dual trigger mechanisms, powerful external alarms. Furthermore a direct SMS notifications can be added – so help is guaranteed to arrive.

What sets the system apart:

Redundant safety: Two independent emergency call points

Immediate alarm: Visual & acoustic signals plus SMS to central locations

Automatic first responder access: Door unlocking in an emergency, minimized false alarms

Self-sufficient & efficient: 12V system, replaceable energy source

Robust & economical: Durable, low maintenance, optimized for continuous use

The students’ claim:
“Reliability is the basis for any self-sufficient toilet. We provide the technology to ensure that help is always guaranteed.”

ABEREUS would like to thank Professors Peter Leibl and Alexander Steinkogler for allowing us to be part of their project class.

We also congratulate the team of Corin Wachsmann, Franziska Frank, Alexander Van Hille, Michael Schwerdtfeger, Johannes Hegering, Aziz Ben Amor, and Ghassen Gouisseim for their great work. We also hope to be able to continue their work.

If you would like to learn more about our collaborations with other mechatronic integration projects, toilets, and new inventions, please connect with us and join us in our commitment to better resource utilization.
