The widespread power outage in southern Berlin also had serious consequences for the water supply. While the lower floors initially still had water coming out of the taps, the situation was different from the 6th floor upwards. Without electricity, the pumps that bring water pressure to the higher floors no longer work. Residents then had to rely on help from their neighbors, who carried water from lower floors up to their own apartments in buckets and canisters.
Berlin’s water utility company has emergency plans in place, but these are limited. Although there are some emergency generators, they are not enough to cover the entire city. They are mainly used for the larger pumping stations. High-rise buildings and densely populated neighborhoods would be particularly affected. Experts advise preparing for emergencies: stock up on drinking water, have canisters ready, and make arrangements with neighbors. Because in the event of a blackout, solidarity is what counts most.
Our dry separation toilets are not necessarily suitable for high-rise buildings, but can serve as a self-sufficient backup solution in the form of the TTC HOLZ.
